Kathak Mahotsav Canada 2015, now in its eight year, is a festival of Kathak dance modeled after the springtime “Durbars” of the Moghul courts, presented by the Rina Singha Kathak Dance Organization. It is an annual gathering of Canadian Kathak artists to celebrate the richness, adaptability and relevance of classical Kathak, from its ancient temple origins to the present. This year’s festival features performances by Madhu Nataraj, Gurmeet Marhas, Pooja Kulkarni and Tanveer Alam, Nisheeth Nirjhum Proshanti, Deepti Gupta, Panwar Music and Dance Productions, Usha Kala Niketan, Tarana Dance Company, Marla Palakkamanil, Tapash Debnath, and Montreal Kathak Ensemble, as well as a special Kathak workshop, Moving Verse in Choreography, led by instructorMadhu Nataraj, August 12-13.
